Stephanie

My journey into motherhood started with multiple failed fertility procedures and in 2010 I became pregnant with my daughter. Life had become consumed with infertility treatments and timelines, so once I was pregnant, I had so many emotions and questions.

How would I transition from this rigorous, medical experience, to trusting that my body could handle pregnancy and birth? The answer was…with a doula’s help! These experiences changed my life and led me to my passion, helping families through their journey into parenthood.

In early 2014 I trained with DONA International to become a birth and postpartum doula. I realized right away that helping families during this amazing transitional time in their lives is my passion. In 2016 I took on the role of Agency Owner and have been loving it ever since!

I believe it is the role of a birth doula to support you emotionally and physically through pregnancy, labor and early postpartum life, as well as provide information and resources. Our goal at Ann Arbor Doulas is to make sure you know all of the options available to you, so you feel empowered to make informed decisions. We will help provide evidence based information and then support your choices.

"How would I transition from this rigorous, medical experience, to trusting that my body could handle pregnancy and birth? The answer was…with a doula’s help!"

The primary goal of a postpartum doula is to help everyone adjust to the “new normal”, and especially help mom to recover from delivery. A happy, healthy, confident, informed mom is key to this transition. We can provide breastfeeding support, practical help around the house, emotional support for the entire family, and teach you to confidently care for your newborn/s. We strive to work ourselves out of a job!

Outside of doula work I enjoy spending time with family and friends, especially outdoors in the fall, which is my favorite time of year. Before becoming a doula I was employed in Finance. I have a BA in Economics and an MS in Finance.

Let’s talk about ways I can support you!

birth doula jodi long review

She made a significant positive impact on our birth experience and the overall health of our newly expanded family. Stephanie was so practical and helpful leading up to, especially during, and even after our son’s birth. To be honest, we were a bit skeptical about doulas, overall, and were looking for a local doula who would jive with our very pragmatic and flexible mentality.

We met with Stephanie and immediately had a rapport. Throughout our meetings, she listened more than she advised and completely withheld any judgments. During the birth, Stephanie was a great coach and gave plenty of physical and emotional support. We were so grateful that she was there! Her follow-up visit to our home was lovely as she got to see our son and we got to reflect on his first couple of weeks and my recovery. I absolutely recommend Stephanie Julian, especially to anybody unsure about how helpful a doula can be.”
