Shelly Varelli, BIRTH DOULA, CHILDBIRTH EDUCATOR
As a holistic birth doula I recognize each individual is part of a larger system of influences. This life-course approach addresses the belief that the health and well-being of the pregnant person, and their growing baby cannot be compartmentalized and treated separately, but are always connected and evolving. There are many aspects of a person's overall sense of self, well-being, or attachment to ideas that shape beliefs - often generationally influenced, that affect us on all levels.
While honoring your current experience, I acknowledge the past and how it affects your health, your baby's health, and the ability to nurture one's self. With every visit, we will talk about how you’re feeling, with a commitment to honor your mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical state during your pregnancy journey. This intention will be maintained throughout your labor, birth, and the healing postpartum phase.
I have a personal and professional passion to help people feel empowered, knowledgeable, and confident.
Within my practice, I provide LGBTQIA inclusive pre-conception planning, pregnancy, birth care, and postpartum care that is compassionate, respectful, and culturally appropriate for all clients, parents, babies, and families.
A little more about Shelly:
After a long journey and series of circuitous of events (including a brief time where I enlisted in the US Army!), I am finally pursuing my dream of becoming a midwife! I am currently a 'Phase Two' student at the Midwives College of Utah pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Midwifery. I am an apprentice midwife and birth assistant with Trillium Birth Services, and manage my own business offering a variety of holistic birth services in Northwest Ohio. I am also a licensed massage therapist, energy worker, and a registered cardiac sonographer. I live in Northwest Ohio, though I am originally from the east coast... born a "Jersey girl" and will always be "Philly proud".
When not at work, you will find Shelly studying for her midwifery degree, assisting community midwives and Doula clients at births, or hanging out with family and friends in Ann Arbor, MI or in the Old West End of Toledo, Ohio.
